Deal: Another eBay sitewide 15% off everything sale, here are highlights

An image of a tablet with the eBay logo featured prominently.

Not that we’re complaining, but it seems like eBay has decided that at least once a month it will run an eBay sitewide deal that nets you a certain percentage off your total order, no matter what you buy. Sometimes it’s as high as 20 percent off, which is insane, but even when it’s 15 percent off that’s still awesome.

Today is one of the 15 percent off days and is the eBay sitewide deal for September 2018. As usual, there are some basic caveats to the sale, but aside from a few limitations, you can save up to $100 off pretty much anything on eBay.com.

The usual caveats are here:

  • You must check out between 8:00 AM PT and 6:00 PM PT on September 27, 2018.
  • The discount does not apply to warranties and protection plans, as well as items from the Coins & Paper Money, Gift Cards & Coupons, and Real Estate categories.
  • You must make a minimum purchase of $25. That doesn’t mean you have to buy one $25 item, it means that your cart must total more than $25.
  • The maximum discount you can get is $100, which makes the sweet spot for the deal around $666 ( m/(>.<)m/ ).
  • Discount applies to the purchase price only, excluding shipping, handling, and taxes.
  • The discount only works on a single transaction made on eBay.com, cafr.ebay.ca, and ebay.ca.
  • One discount per customer.
  • You must enter the promo code PICKSOON at checkout.

Since the discount can apply to anything, it can obviously apply to smartphones, tablets, and other electronics we here at Android Authority love. To save you some legwork, we found the following deals that you should probably check out if you like the same things we do:

Don’t forget to enter the code PICKSOON at checkout. If you find a great deal for this eBay sitewide deal, let us know about it in the comments!

Official Google Pixel 3 marketing materials leak, focusing on nifty tricks

  • A batch of official marketing images and even a video about the Google Pixel 3 just leaked.
  • The materials focus on the different unique features that come with the Google Pixel 3, as well as simple Android 9 Pie features.
  • Although we have seen a lot of leaks of the Google Pixel 3, this is our first “official” look at the device.

As you no doubt have noticed by now, we’ve seen a lot of leaks surrounding the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL. At this point, we know pretty much everything there is to know.

However, all the leaks we’ve seen so far have been unofficial, meaning they originated from somewhere other than Google itself. Today, we get our first look at the Google Pixel 3 in official marketing materials obtained by MySmartPrice.

There are no surprises here, with the images and video of the Google Pixel 3 looking exactly like we expected from all the other leaks. But the marketing materials give us a good idea of what Google will be pushing to promote these new smartphones.

Editor’s Pick

Judging from the leaked media, Google will focus on all the nifty tricks one can perform with the Google Pixel 3, such as the squeezable sides, double-tap-to-wake, the always-on-display, the automatic music match, etc. It will also focus on things that are not unique to the Pixel line, but instead unique to Android 9 Pie (which will obviously ship with the Google Pixel 3).

Check out the leaked marketing video and images below:

Leaked marketing material for the Google Pixel 3.

A lot of the features shown off in the media above are unique to Android, but not exactly unique to the Pixel. It could be that Google is positioning its marketing strategy as less “Look at all the things you can do with the Pixel” to be more “Look at all the things you can do on Android that you can’t do on the iPhone.” It certainly isn’t the worst strategy, but it’s well-worn territory.

The Google Pixel 3 launches on October 9, so we’ll get a much better idea of how Google intends to promote the Pixel line then. In the meantime, what do you think? Let us know in the comments!

How to Create WordPress Backup Using JetPack (formerly VaultPress)

Do you want to create WordPress backup using JetPack (formerly VaultPress). VaultPress help you create automatic real-time WordPress backups and store them in the cloud. In case of a mishap, you can easily restore your WordPress website with just a few clicks. In this article, we will show you how to easily create real-time WordPress backup using JetPack (formerly VaultPress).

Creating WordPress backup using JetPack + VaultPress

Why Use WordPress Backups by JetPack (VaultPress)?

VaultPress is one of the best WordPress backup plugins. It was rebranded to merge with JetPack, and it is now called JetPack Backups.

JetPack offers backups as a paid subscription service. Their pricing plans start from $39 per year for JetPack Personal (which is lower than what VaultPress cost previously). This plan comes with:

  • Automated daily backups with unlimited storage
  • 30-day backup archive
  • Easy site-migration and 1-click restore
  • Expert support provided by email
  • and other powerful features like image CDN, lazy loading, etc.

We use VaultPress on WPBeginner for backups, and we have found it to be an extremely reliable solution. The primary reason why we use VaultPress is because they offer a seamless real-time backup solution which is very important for a large site like ours.

That being said, let’s take a look at how to create WordPress backups using JetPack (formerly VaultPress).

Creating WordPress Backups Using JetPack (Formerly VaultPress)

The first thing you need to do is install and activate the VaultPress plugin. For more details, see our step by step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

Upon activation, click on the VaultPress menu item in the WordPress admin sidebar. This will bring you to the plugin’s settings page. Click on the ‘View plans and pricing’ button to continue.

View VaultPress plans and pricing

This will take you to VaultPress website where you will see pricing for JetPack Personal plan. Click on the Get Started button to continue.

Select JetPack plan and continue

On the next screen, you need to enter your website address and then click on the ‘Start Installation’ button.

JetPack enter site address

Next, you will be asked to provide your WordPress website’s administrator username and password. This information is used for installation and will not be stored anywhere.

Enter your WordPress website's admin username and password

JetPack will now be automatically installed on your WordPress site, and you will be redirected to the payment page. After providing your payment information, click on the ‘Pay’ button to continue.

JetPack payment

After payment, the setup will continue and automatically configure backups for your website. Once finished, you can click on the ‘Back to your site’ button.

JetPack setup finished

This will take you back to your WordPress website’s admin area. From here you need to visit JetPack » VaultPress page to view and manage your WordPress backups.

VaultPress dashboard

Note: Depending on the contents of your website, VaultPress may take a few minutes to finish the first backup before it appears on this page.

Giving VaultPress Access to Your Server

VaultPress needs access to your server to restore backups and be more efficient. To do that, you need to visit the VaultPress dashboard.

Visit dashboard

From here you need to visit the Settings page and enter your SSH or SFTP credentials. You can find this information in the email you received from your hosting provider when you signed up.

Give VaultPress access to your server

VaultPress will also ask you to add SSH Keys to your server. If you are on a shared hosting provider, then chances are that you don’t have access to create that file.

This file adds an additional layer of security. However, if you can’t add those SSH Keys, then VaultPress would still be able to connect to your server using SFTP information that you provided.

Don’t forget to click on the Save button to store your credentials.

Note: you can continue using Jetpack without providing access to your WordPress hosting server. The advantage of adding your SFTP access is that it helps VaultPress work more efficiently, and if you have a large site, then this will help you restore faster.

Restoring WordPress Backup by JetPack and VaultPress

VaultPress allows you to easily restore your WordPress site from a backup. Simply go to JetPack » VaultPress page and then click on the ‘Visit Dashboard’ button.

Visit dashboard

This will take you to your VaultPress dashboard where you need to click on ‘Backups’.

VaultPress dashboard backups

You will see a page showing your most recent backups. You can click on the restore button next to the backup that you want to restore.

Restore a backup

VaultPress will now prepare your backup to be restored, and you will be able to see the progress on screen.

VaultPress restore progress

Once finished, you will see a success message.

VaultPress restore successful

You can now go back to your WordPress site’s admin area to see if everything is working as expected.
