Official Google Pixel 3 marketing materials leak, focusing on nifty tricks

As you no doubt have noticed by now, we’ve seen a lot of leaks surrounding the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL. At this point, we know pretty much everything there is to know.

However, all the leaks we’ve seen so far have been unofficial, meaning they originated from somewhere other than Google itself. Today, we get our first look at the Google Pixel 3 in official marketing materials obtained by MySmartPrice.

There are no surprises here, with the images and video of the Google Pixel 3 looking exactly like we expected from all the other leaks. But the marketing materials give us a good idea of what Google will be pushing to promote these new smartphones.

Judging from the leaked media, Google will focus on all the nifty tricks one can perform with the Google Pixel 3, such as the squeezable sides, double-tap-to-wake, the always-on-display, the automatic music match, etc. It will also focus on things that are not unique to the Pixel line, but instead unique to Android 9 Pie (which will obviously ship with the Google Pixel 3).

A lot of the features shown off in the media above are unique to Android, but not exactly unique to the Pixel. It could be that Google is positioning its marketing strategy as less “Look at all the things you can do with the Pixel” to be more “Look at all the things you can do on Android that you can’t do on the iPhone.” It certainly isn’t the worst strategy, but it’s well-worn territory.

The Google Pixel 3 launches on October 9, so we’ll get a much better idea of how Google intends to promote the Pixel line then. In the meantime, what do you think? Let us know in the comments!

On our eCommerce website, we use LiveChat as our chat software. You can use any of the top live chat software, but for the sake of this tutorial, we’ll only show the platform that we’re using ourselves.

First, you need to visit the LiveChat website and signup for an account.

LiveChat is a paid solution (starting from $16.99 per agent). They also offer a free 30-day trial allowing you to check out the features and see if its a good fit for your business.

After registration, you will see the LiveChat dashboard. From here you need to click on the Settings button to customize the LiveChat window’s appearance.

From here, you can choose the chat window colors and theme to match your website’s color scheme. After that, click on ‘Advanced window tweaks’ link to upload your own logo and add your social media profiles.

Next, you need to select an eye-catcher. These eye-catchers are images that are displayed when the LiveChat window is minimized.

LiveChat has several eyecatcher styles that you can use. Alternatively, you can also upload your own images and use them as your eyecatcher.

Now that you are satisfied with the chat window’s appearance, its time to add LiveChat agents. Switch to the ‘Agents’ tab and then click on the ‘Invite teammates’ link.

This will bring you to add agent screen. You need to provide name, job title, and email address for the team member you want to invite.

Don’t forget to change ‘Permissions’ for the team member you are adding. You can add them as agents with limited control on your account or as an administrator with full access to the app. If you are unsure, then select agent.

Your LiveChat setup is now ready, and you can add it to your WooCommerce store.

Adding the LiveChat to Your Website

LiveChat makes it super easy to add the chat window and buttons to your online store.

In your WordPress site, you need to install and activate the LiveChat plugin. For more details, see our step by step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

Upon activation, the plugin will add a new menu item labeled ‘LiveChat’ to your WordPress admin. Clicking on it will take you to plugin’s settings page.

Connect LiveChat

From here you need to click on the ‘Sign in with LiveChat’ button to connect your WordPress site to your LiveChat account.

Once connected, you will see some basic LiveChat settings. You can turn it off on mobile devices, turn off sounds, or hide chat window from non-logged in users.

Should Chrome copy Safari and help block Facebook?

At its World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) Keynote earlier this week, Apple unveiled new anti-tracking features for its Safari browser. The Cupertino company named Facebook in the speech and it will likely be affected by the changes. However, as a major provider of targeted ads, Google will also probably be hit.

The changes will see Safari block ‘like’ buttons, ‘share’ buttons, and comment sections on websites, preventing them from tracking what people do online. These buttons can track users even when they aren’t logged in to the service in question. In the new version of Safari, however, if a button tries to track web browsing, a popup will appear asking if the user wants to allow it.

Safari will also protect users from ‘fingerprinting,’ a way of identifying them as they move across the web based on the individual aspects of their browser preferences. This can include things such as screen size, plugins in use, and fonts that may be installed.

Tracking users is important to companies like Facebook and Google as they provide targeted ad services. By seeing the types of thing you are browsing, the companies are able to show you ads that relate to things you might want to buy. This is why, after looking to buy a new phone, or flights, or shoes, you might be repeatedly hit by adverts for those products. The changes implemented by Safari could affect the ability of Facebook and Google to do this.

While the changes are likely a reaction to the ongoing Facebook data scandal, anti-tracking features on web browsers are nothing new. They have long been found on niche privacy-focused products such as Tor and Firefox Focus. There are also plenty of extensions for the likes of Chrome and Firefox that claim they can prevent tracking.

However, the addition of anti-tracking to Safari, the second most popular browser in the U.S., is different because it is being introduced as the default setup. While there is no guarantee that anti-tracking in browsers will catch on, if users do begin to demand more features to stop targeted ads, it could put Google and Chrome in a tricky situation.

Should Google Chrome also block Facebook?

Any attempts by Google to block trackers by sites such as Facebook on Chrome would be hugely hypocritical given the tracking Google does itself. Google could argue that Chrome users know they are being tracked by Google but blocking other sites would still be a double standard.

A blanket ban on trackers would also be highly unlikely considering the company’s business model. Barring a major change in the way Google sells ads, one course of action — should users demand Safari-like anti-tracking features — could be to be more transparent about the tracking that goes on.

Google has shown a willingness to improve its browser, even if it means fewer ads are shown. It recently began blocking Chrome ads that violate standards set by the Coalition for Better Advertising.

By removing the most annoying ads from the web, such as popups and auto-playing ads, Google improves the online experience and makes ad blockers less necessary. Who’s to say it can’t do something similar with tracking, curbing the most egregious aspects of it.

Safari’s anti-tracking measures may not become a must-have feature, and Google may not need to make any changes to Chrome to keep up at all. However, if people do start flocking to Safari, Google could have some tough decisions to make.

Finally, if you are a Chrome user, you should be aware that there are some things you can do to reduce the amount of tracking that takes place when you use the browser. This includes add-ons you can use to block trackers. It is even possible to turn on a “do not track” request, although Google does make it clear that this is just a request and it has no control over whether or not the website in question will honor it or not.
