Twitter co-founder details how editing tweets could work (if they ever implement it)

An edit button is high on the list of many a Twitter user’s wishlist, but the company has held out for the longest time. Now, co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey has revealed how the feature could work — if it’s actually implemented.

In an interview on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast (h/t: 9to5Mac), the Twitter co-founder suggested a “five to 30 second delay” to edit tweets before they’re actually sent (skip to 1:19:50 mark). Dorsey cautioned against this delay lasting too long, so as to preserve the tweet’s “real-time nature.”

The Twitter executive also confirmed the network was looking at the ability to view the original tweet. However, it’s unclear whether this functionality would be for deleted or edited tweets. A similar system is in place for Facebook, allowing users to view the edit history of a tweaked message.

These suggestions don’t necessarily mean an edit button is indeed in the works, but it does show that the company is aware of the demand. Hopefully the company doesn’t take the delayed approach, as one of the biggest reasons to use Twitter is to receive missives with as short a delay as possible.

The podcast has received an overwhelmingly negative reaction on YouTube so far. At the time of writing, the video of the podcast had 60,000 dislikes and 9,500 likes. It’s unclear if the reception is truly organic or the victim of vote-brigading; many of the comments reference censorship and/or politics.
