Lethal Weapon (1987)

There’s not much that has to be said about Lethal Weapon, one of the best buddy cop movies of all time. This is the movie that kickstarter a franchise that lives on today with the Lethal Weapon TV series on Fox. Lethal Weapon heavily influenced movies like Hot Fuzz, Rush Hour, Tango & Cash, and Bad Boys, which had their own successes. The movie also further cemented Mel Gibson and Daniel Glover’s acting careers. If you’re into absurd action, look no further.

Apollo 13 (1995)

Before 2013’s Gravity, 1995’s Apollo 13 showed everyone how to make a fantastic and incredibly accurate movie set in space. The movie deals with the 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission, which never made it to the Moon due to an oxygen tank that exploded during flight. Even with severe damage to some of the onboard systems, the Apollo 13 crew returned safely to Earth. The movie re-tells the story in a gripping manner, thanks to director Ron Howard and the performances from Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, and the rest of the cast.
